With the development of electronic information technology, world machine tool industry enters the period of electromechanical integration which takes digitized manufacturing technology as the core, of which numerical control (NC) machine is one of the representative products. NC machine is the important basis of processing mother machine in manufacturing and national economy. It provides equipments and means for different departments of national economy, and has infinitely amplified economic and social effects. At present, industrialized countries such as Europe, America and Japan etc. have succesively completed the process of NC machine industrialization, and because of late starting in 1980s, China is still in the developing stage.
During the “10th Five Years” period, China NC machine industry developed at superhigh speed. Its yield was 17521 in 2001, 24803 in 2002, 36813 in 2003, 51861 in 2004 which was 3.7 times of that in 2000, annual average growth was 39%; in 2005, domestic NC machine yield was 59639 closely to 60 thousand and was 4.24 times of that at the end of the “9th Five Years”. During the “10th Five Years”, the main reason why China machine tool industry developed so rapidly was the flourishing market demand, high growth rate of investment in fixed assets, rapid development of automobile and machine manufacturing industry and accelerating growth of foreign investment enterprises.
In 2006, yield of China NC metal cutting machines was to 85756, increased year-on-year 32.8%, and its increase amplitude was 18.4 percentage points higher than the yield of metal cutting machine tools, thus made NC rate of metal cutting machine tools output value get to 37.8%, increased 2.3 percentage points than last year. Besides, NC machine obtained great achievements in export trade, export volume was to 334 million dollars in the whole year, increased year-on-year 63.14%, higher by 18.58 percentage points than the growth rate of export volume of all metal processing machine tools.
For a long time, domestic NC machine was in the situation in which the low-end expands rapidly, the middle-end developed slowly and the high-end relied on exports, especially the key equipments needed in the key national projects mainly relied on exports, and technology was enslaved to others. There are the reasons: domestic NC machine tool enterprises are in the “extensive” stage, and lag 5-10 years comparing with the advanced level of foreign countries in the aspects of design level, quality, precision and performance of the product; lag 10-15 years in the aspects of high, precise and advanced technology. Meanwhile ability in the aspects of application technology and technology integration is much weaker in China, researching and making of related technology regulations and standards relatively lag and domestic NC machine tool hasn’t formed brand effect. Simultaneously China NC machine tool industry lacks supporting systems such as perfect technology training, service network etc., marketing ability and operating management level are not high. More important reason is lacking of independent innovation ability, few NC systems have completely independent intellectual property, which restricts the development of NC machine industry.
Popular style NC systems of foreign companies account for 80% of China NC system sales. If we could make breakthrough in the rapid industrialization of popular style NC systems, China NC system industry has the hope achieving strategic counterattack throughly. Meanwhile, we should establish more perfect independent innovation system of high-end NC system, improve China capacity of independent design, development and complete production, create domestic independent brand and enhance general technology level of China high-end NC system.
During the “11th Five Years” period, China NC machine industry will enter rapid development period, and face golden development opportunities. According to the consumption quantity of China NC machine tools from 1996 to 2005, through model fitting, it is estimated that sales of NC machine tools will be to 89 thousand in 2009, annual average growth rate is 16.5%. According to 1996-2005 consumption growth model in China processing center, it is estimated that consumption quantity of processing center will be to 28 thousand, which increases year-on-year 17.8%.
