  In 2006, the numbers of China star hotels sustained moderate growth. At the end of 2006, there were 12751 star hotels in the whole country, increased by 923 than the end of 2005, rose 7.8%; 1.4598 million guest rooms, increased by 127.6 thousand than the end of 2005, rose 9.6%; 2.7855 million beds, increased by 213.8 thousand than the end of 2005, rose 8.3%. The operation status of star hotels were good in 2006. Total whole year operating revenues were 148.286 billion yuan, increased by 13.617 billion yuan than last year, rose 10.1%; turning in business tax 10.812 billion yuan, increased by 3.096 billion yuan, rose 40.1%.
  In 2007, vacation adjusting policy made hotel industry nervous. Release of paid vacation activated tourism hotels field and it was a big cake for hotel and tourism industry and made hotel and tourism industry enter the golden “increasing price-volume” period of investment. Meanwhile, upgrading of domestic consumption promoted the domestic tourist numbers to grow in step with average expense, rapider and more comfortable transportation service made the bottleneck restriction effect of traffic on tourism smaller and smaller, which made sightseeing tourism develop continuously and leisure vacation rise gradually. Tourism market introduced related products and many resort hotels seized the business opportunity and did related adjustments to the changes of the market. And for the business hotel located in big cities, the release of paid vacation was also a popular news. Because of the cancellation of golden week “May 1st”, business hotels won’t experience the embarrassing situation “vacant room” even “depreciation” caused by the golden weeks again. Normal working during “ May 1st” made business hotels have normal “business” value.
  In 2007, China hotel merchants increased revenues of per available guest room by 3.2% to 86 dollars, and admitting rate was to 67.9%. Revenues per available guest room in secondary cities developed most rapidly and the grwoth rate was 6.9%, and 4.0% in main cities. Performance in cities with over 5 million residents was worse than in secondary cities, operation merchants expected short-term investment, tourism development and Olympic effect would help to achieve the sustainable growth of admitting rate and revenues per available room in main cities.
  With the coming 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the intense preparation for 2010 Shanghai Expo, hotel industry will develop rapidly. It is estimated that profit growth situation of hotel industry will rise up straightly in 2008 and 2010. That means there is five years’ period to grow from 2006 to 2010 for hotel industry. There will be 1079 new hotels opening around the whole world in 2008, which supply 131517 guest rooms. Excluding the effect of population changes on other real estate industry, it shows in 2008, gross growth rate of hotels numbers is 2.8%. The growth rate of China hotel industry will rank first in the world. The scale of hotel construction in the whole Asia-pacific region is quite large, of which nearly half will happen in China.
