Report on China Biodiesel Industry, 2011-2015

　　Biodiesel is the clean renewable energy, a kind of liquid fuel which is made from the raw materials: oil crops such as soybean and rapeseed, fruits of oil trees such as oil plam and pistacia, oil aquatic plants such as engineering microalgae, animal fat and waste oils and fats etc., a perfect alternative fuel. Biodiesel is a typical “Green Energy”, and developing biodiesel vigorously has important strategic meaning for sustainable development of the economy, promoting energy substitution, lightening environmental pressure and controlling urban air pollution.
　　Making overview of the developed countries such as America, German, Japan, less developed countries such as South Africa, Brazil and Korea and developing countries such as India, Thailand, etc., they all provide good references for developing alternative fuel industry in the aspects of international policy system, technology perfection, equipment construction and vehicle manufacturing etc., and pave road for China to develop alternative fuel with Chinese characteristics. Especially Brazil, its experience has more practical significance.
　　Biodiesel is a newly emerging industry in China and presents more market characteristics which usually show in the early period of industrialization. Attracted by the business opportunities showing in the “Double Concepts”: green energy and supporting agriculture industry, many enterpreises enter this industry. People use “like bamboo shoots after a spring rain” to describe the status quo of biodiesel. By 2007, there were more than 2000 large and small biodiesel production plants in China, further more, establishment and approval of the same projects in different areas has continued. More threats are from foreign competitors. With strong capital strength, mature production technology and high industrialization level, some foreign companies gain cost advantage relying on the effect of scale economy and their comprehensive abilities of seizing raw material base and market shares are stronger.
　　From the view of future development, biodiesel buyers are mainly petroleum refineries, power plants, steam ship companies and middlemen in the circulation field. The demand of biodiesel are increasing continuously. It is estimated that, by 2010, demand for China biodiesel will be to 20 million tons per year, and according to the mid-long term plan of China renewable energy, the production capacity will be 200 thousand tons per year at that time. The contrast between demand and yield will make the products in short supply situation. When people know more about the excellent performances of biodiesel, biodiesel will be accepted further and market demand will increase. Strong market demand and limited production capacity decrease the bargaining ability of buyers. Meanwhile higher requirements are put forward for the biodiesel production enterprises, they shoud increase the investment in technology innovation and improve the quality of oil products to keep the good quality image of biodiesel.
　　With the gradual further development of reform and opening up and in the process of global economic integration, China economic level will be improved further and the demand for energy will constantly increase. If only transforming the research results related to biodiesel to productivity and forming industrialization, application prospect of biodiesel will be very broad in the fields of diesel engine, diesel power plant, air-conditioning equipment and rural fuel etc.
